Preliminary task evaluation questions
14:12
Describe your brief?:
Our brief was to film someone walking through a door, sitting down opposite someone else and exchanging a few lines of conversation. I found the task to be a good introduction to Media Studies AS.
1. How did you find the task overall?I found this task overally enjoyable. I found it particularly tricky to grasp the 180 degree rule, even after researching it extensively, which meant I didn't successfully follow the rule during filming.
2. Summarise the equipment and the software you used
I used the schools camera to film my video as well as a tripod. I used iMovie to edit the video, which was not new to me as I have an Apple Mac at home which I have used to make movies on iMovie before. I am familiar with the basic techniques on iMovie, but I do hope I become an expert over the course of the media studies AS. During editing, I learnt how to put music on an iMovie project. During filming, I learnt how to manually focus the camera.
3. How did you plan the task?
I planned the task by creating a storyboard and script for my film. I drew my storyboard planning what shots I would use. I mostly stuck to my original storyboard when I filmed it, the only decision I made during my film was in editing, I decided to.add music, which I got from a royalty-free music site.
4. What challenges did you face during the planning, construction and editing of the task? How did you overcome them?
I had no real problems during the planning phase of the task. During the construction of the task, I struggled at first with panning successfully at the same pace my actor walked across the room, it seemed that I didn't do this as in my final video, I was a bit slow. I also struggled with figuring out whether I was on the right side of the axis and keeping to the 180 degree rule, which I didn't do well as I crossed the line accidentally. During editing, I found it difficult to edit my match on action so that she was in the same place on the outside and inside of the door, which I overcame by taking my time to choose how much of the shot to put in the video.
5. Overall, how pleased are you with the task and how do you think it might help with creating film opening?
I am pleased that I completed this task, and I think I have learnt a lot from doing it, since it was my first attempt at filming and editing an AS Media Studies video. I have learnt a lot about using the camera's and tripods as well as using iMovie to edit videos. These skills that I have improved during this task will help me during my main task of the film opening as I will be using the same skills to create the film opening
