Preliminary task deeper analysis/ attempt two

11:00

Today, we were lucky enough to have a man who worked in the film industry for 25 years, on films as famous as 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menace' and 'Tomb Raider', come in and give us further feedback and advice on our preliminary task. The main comments he made on my video were that I needed to decrease the headroom above my actors' heads so that they fill the whole screen and there's less dead air. He also picked up on me failing to stick to the 180-degree rule and crossing the line, which made the cuts more obvious. He also mentioned how my panning was quite slow compared to actors pace and I needed to move the camera to ensure frame was constantly full and that I stopped panning when actor stopped walking, so I practised panning and following an actor during the making of our attempt two preliminary task we did as a group.

He also showed us how to make another preliminary task using the shot/reverse shot and 180-degree rule. Below are the pictures of the shot/reverse shot. We made sure their eyelines and head proportions were maintained. The shots we used: The final result: Evaluation: we edited as a class, and we did not spend time making sure the clips were correct, so at the beginning, there is coughing and we hear the camerawoman, Jessica Durand give the action command. Furthermore, even with the help of the professional, we still broke the 180 degree rule and crossed the line! But, in editing, we flipped the footage so it looked correct. This second attempt at the preliminary task was not perfect, but it was helpful for us to have another go as a class working as a team. We took turns to set up camera and film, but the actors were Tabitha Williams and Nikita Bansi and it was edited by Lizzy Marshall, with the whole class' input.
